City Science supported LDA Design in their transport and infrastructure review for development near Taunton Waterways and a Waterways Strategy for Taunton.
Scope
Our scope was to support the evidence base and feasibility study.
- To provide baseline analysis reviewing the new relevant local planning documents and previous work undertaken previously to assess its continuing relevance and identify gaps.
- To review and update the key issues, constraints and opportunities in the project area. Based on previous work and the revised baseline analysis.
- To provide proposals for a range of site-specific projects and actions at a different, strategic and feasibility, scales to enhance the river and its surroundings and the level of beneficial activities on and around the river.
City Science Response
- Policy Review: We delivered a strategic review of several key policy documents specifically applicable and relevant to Taunton, including topics ranging from mobility hubs, caron neutrality, climate positive planning, rights of way and heat networks.
- Spatial Mapping: We supported the study with digital maps using our Cadence software.
- Mobility Hubs: We identified appropriate models for Mobility Hubs to support the waterway development, including a review of guiding principles, design options and funding potential.
- Hydro Energy Generation: We Investigated various potential hydropower energy solutions that could be implemented in the local context.
- Other Energy: We provided an overview of potential other energy solutions including water source heat pumps and heat networks.
Outcomes
Our inputs supported LDA Designs submission to Somerset Council of a Waterways Strategy document for Taunton.
