Having supported Women in Net Zero (WiNZ) from the onset including through sponsorship of the launch event in April, City Science remains a proud advocate of the group, and its dedication to empowering women driving the UK’s transition to net zero. We’re thrilled to announce that two of our team members, Heather Watkinson and Eimear Maden, have been appointed to the WINZ board. Heather “…look(s) forward to maintaining the energy, enthusiasm and positivity that was captured at our launch event in April and seeing the group flourish.” Whilst Eimear is “…delighted to join the …board and help champion the voices of women working towards a more sustainable future. If we are to meet our net zero goals, we must support and uplift women across every sector, from science and engineering to finance, marketing, journalism, and beyond.”
Championing Women in Climate Leadership
Women in Net Zero launched with a clear mission: to empower women to amplify their impact and excel in their net zero careers. The organisation brings together professionals across sectors and disciplines to share insight, create connections, and raise the visibility of women driving climate action.
Chaired by Mel Andrews, the WiNZ board includes senior leaders in policy, innovation, communications and climate leadership – each united by a shared mission to accelerate progress toward net zero by empowering women already working in – or looking to enter – the field. The board includes Mel Andrews (Chair), Heather Watkinson, Angela Howarth, Christine Zhou and Eimear Maden.
Building Momentum for Change
The initiative has already gained significant traction, with almost 200 members signed up and a successful inaugural in-person event. As board members, Heather and Eimear will play crucial roles in guiding WiNZ’s vision of creating a global network dedicated to uniting and supporting women to maximise their contributions to net zero.
Speaking about the initiative’s importance, WiNZ Chair Mel Andrews noted: “From our very first launch event, the remarkable talent and passion of women striving to reshape our net zero future was undeniable. If we are going to meet these global challenges, we need these brilliant people to succeed – to bring their ideas and unique perspectives forward.”
City Science’s Commitment to Diversity and Impact
At City Science, we’ve always recognised that diverse perspectives drive innovation and better outcomes. Having Heather and Eimear represent our organisation on the board reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting women in climate leadership roles.
Their appointments underscore the calibre of talent within our team and our collective dedication to addressing the climate challenge through inclusive, collaborative approaches.
Looking Ahead
Women in Net Zero is now welcoming new members from across the UK at all career stages and in all areas of the climate and energy transition. The group is building momentum ahead of its next community event in autumn 2025 for which further details will follow shortly.
We look forward to supporting Heather and Eimear in their board roles and watching Women in Net Zero continue to grow as a powerful force for change in the net zero transition.
