We’re delighted to announce that City Science has been awarded funding as part of the UK Government’s £30 million investment in maritime decarbonisation, through Round 6 of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC).
The competition, delivered by the Department for Transport in partnership with Innovate UK, supports cutting-edge R&D projects designed to drive innovation, reduce emissions, and grow the UK’s clean maritime economy. This latest round of funding is focused on the development of clean maritime technologies and smart port infrastructure and we’re thrilled to be part of it.
Introducing Our Project: PortLAEP
City Science’s successful project, titled PortLAEP: Digital Twin and Feasibility Assessment for Maritime Decarbonisation, explores a forward-thinking intersection between digital twin technology, Local Area Energy Planning (LAEP), and maritime port decarbonisation. The project will assess the feasibility of clean energy transitions at ports using advanced modelling and simulation, helping to identify the most effective strategies for reducing carbon emissions while supporting growth and operational resilience.
This initiative highlights our ongoing commitment to applying data-driven solutions to some of the UK’s most pressing environmental and infrastructure challenges.
Clean Maritime Conference 2025
We will be exhibiting at Innovate UK’s Clean Maritime Day 2025 on September 18th in London. We will present our data platform, Cadence, how we intend to deliver this project and build connections to spark future collaboration and ideas on how we can work together to decarbonise maritime.
Supporting a Smarter, Greener Future
At City Science, we believe that innovation and decarbonisation go hand in hand. PortLAEP represents a critical step toward a cleaner, smarter, and more efficient maritime sector, and we’re excited to collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the UK as we take this work forward.
We’re proud to contribute to the UK’s ambition to become a world leader in clean maritime technologies and help deliver on the commitments of the Maritime 2050 strategy.
