City Science Selected to Develop West Sussex’s Climate Adaptation Action Plan

We are delighted to announce that City Science has been selected by West Sussex County Council (WSCC) to develop a Climate Adaptation Action Plan. This project will assess the climate risks faced by West Sussex (e.g. flooding, extreme heat and water supply shortage). We will then work closely with key stakeholders to identify the priority actions that will mitigate the risks.

What is Climate Adaptation?

Climate Mitigation: Our projects typically focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions (particularly carbon dioxide). This is crucial to ensure we work towards the Paris Agreements goal of limiting future global temperature rises to 1.5°C above ‘pre-industrial’ levels.

Climate Adaptation: Focuses on managing the effects of climate change that we are already experiencing or are anticipated in the future.

A Countywide Vision

Over the coming months, City Science will work closely with WSCC, all seven district councils, and key stakeholders to:

  • Identify West Sussex’s key climate risks and the most vulnerable districts.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the county to develop consensus on the most critical risks.
  • Identify and develop priority actions that will help protect communities and ecosystems from the most severe impacts of a changing climate.

The key output will be a joined-up, cohesive approach that turns climate challenges into practical, measurable actions.
