CITY SCIENCE WINS COMPETITION TO EXPAND CADENCE TO THE UNITED STATES

We’re excited to share that City Science has won the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) Create Growth Programme Competition 4, enabling us to bring our innovative GIS platform, Cadence, to the US market. This milestone represents a major step forward in our mission to make creative, map-based storytelling accessible worldwide.

Cadence’s growth over the years

Cadence is City Science’s flagship, cloud-native GIS platform designed to make map-based storytelling effortless. It enables users to create rich, interactive narratives that seamlessly integrate maps, images, videos, and text.

Since City Science’s founding in 2015, Cadence has evolved continuously to support the company’s expanding mission. In recent years we have developed our in-built data catalogue and visualisation capacity. Users can now access over 3,600 datasets as well as being able to add charts and annotations to their map. Cadence has experienced an exponential growth in users, with a particular focus in the UK and Europe. Now, we’re ready to take the next step: launching Cadence in the United States.

Project Goals and Innovations

This project aims to introduce three major innovations:

  • Industry-First 3D Visualisation
A pioneering feature enabling non-technical users to create immersive, spatially accurate 3D stories, all within a web browser.
  • Tailored US Adaptation
Cadence will integrate with US-specific basemaps, content sources, and localisation features to ensure relevance and ease of use for American creators.
  • Global Content Ingestion Engine
A new system for seamless retrieval and integration of international media and geospatial data, supporting future expansion beyond the US.

Looking Ahead

Cadence aims to become the global leader in creative, map-based storytelling; empowering education, tourism, culture, and place marketing sectors worldwide.

This next chapter represents not only growth for City Science but also a milestone for UK innovation reaching global audiences.

We’re excited to share this journey.
