City Science alongside our partners Furrer+Frey, Wood, Oxfordshire County Council, and the University of Exeter, have recently been awarded funding from Innovate UK to investigate the potential for a 30km demonstrator of overhead electric cables (‘catenary system’) on a strategic road corridor (more information available here).
This is a key component of the ambitions identified in the DfT’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan for a ‘zero emission freight and logistics sector’, including the proposed ban on the sales of non-zero emission HGVs by 2040.
An important first stage of our study is listening to, and collating feedback from all possible stakeholders affected by the catenary system. This research aims to identify key concerns and questions stakeholders would like to see answered through our feasibility study. By participating in this survey you’ll help us understand your needs from this potential freight decarbonisation technology.
