On 7th September, City Science was proud to host the second of our three-part webinar series on ‘Navigating Transport Decarbonisation’. The series aims to equip transport practitioners and local authorities with information and tools to press ahead with transport decarbonisation.
The second hugely successful event, entitled ‘Technology and Innovation Optimism’, focused on examining the reliance of the DfT’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan’s on technological solutions. The potential of technology options currently being developed nationally and locally, from electric and hydrogen vehicles to overhead catenary systems on our roads, was also explored.
Chaired by Elliot Reid (Principal Transport Consultant, City Science), these topics were explored in presentations and a panel discussion from:
- Alistair Barnes (Innovation Lead Zero Emission Vehicles, Innovate UK)
- Natalia Peralta Silverstone (Head of Propositions, Octopus Electric Vehicles)
- Thomas Ableman (Founder, The Freewheeling Blog and Podcast)
- Laura Peacock (Innovation Hub Manager, Oxfordshire County Council)
- Laurence Oakes-Ash (Founder and CEO, City Science)
The audience were proactively engaged, with the presentations and discussions sparking an insightful discussion amongst the panellists. Specific themes covered include:
- The risk of relying on electric vehicles as a sole solution
- Collaboration between the transport industry and other industries
- Ensuring the suitability and safety of new technologies
- The role of technology in the face of projected increases in travel demand
