Programme overview
Why this programme exists
Supply chain emissions – the carbon associated with the goods and services an organisation procures – represent the largest single component of Arun District Council’s carbon footprint. Meeting our declared climate targets requires that we understand and address these emissions, which means engaging directly with our supplier base.
This programme serves two purposes. For the council, it provides the structured data and insight needed to develop procurement policy that is aligned with our net zero commitments. For suppliers, it offers practical support in building the sustainability capability that is becoming a standard requirement across public and private sector procurement alike.
You have been identified as a supplier whose participation would contribute meaningfully to this programme. We would welcome your involvement.
Supply chain (Scope 3) emissions represent over half of Arun District Council’s total organisational carbon footprint. Addressing these emissions is a necessary component of meeting our climate targets, and it requires direct engagement with the suppliers through whom those emissions arise.
Rather than placing compliance obligations on suppliers, the council has commissioned a structured engagement programme designed to support suppliers in developing their own sustainability capability with direct, tangible benefit to their organisation as well as to ours.
Survey responses are processed in accordance with GDPR and will not be shared with the council or any other party without your explicit consent. You may complete the survey and receive your report without consenting to data sharing.

What participation involves, and what you receive in return
Participation requires approximately 15-20 minutes to complete a structured survey on your organisation’s current sustainability activities. In return, all participants receive the following, provided at no cost as part of the programme.
Carbon Maturity Assessment Report
Within seven days of completing the survey, you will receive a personalised five-page report prepared by City Science. The report provides a structured assessment of your organisation’s current sustainability position: where your practices are well-developed, where there are gaps, and which actions are most likely to have a meaningful impact. It includes benchmarking against comparable organisations in your sector.
Delivered within 7 daysSupplier Sustainability Training Programme
Participants will be invited to attend a three-part training programme delivered in 2026. The programme covers the fundamentals of carbon accounting, supply chain emissions measurement, and the development of a credible sustainability strategy. Sessions are conducted via Microsoft Teams and are designed to be accessible to organisations at any stage of the sustainability journey.
Delivered in 2026Preparation for Evolving Procurement Requirements
Sustainability criteria are increasingly embedded in procurement processes across both the public and private sectors. Larger organisations are progressively requiring their own supply chains to demonstrate emissions awareness and reduction plans. Developing this capability now through a structured, supported programme positions your organisation to respond to these requirements effectively as they become standard practice.
