City Science Commissioned for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough State of the Region Report 2024

We are delighted to announce that City Science has been commissioned to produce the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough State of the Region 2024. This comprehensive report and interactive dashboard will provide a detailed, evidence-based assessment of the region’s economic, social, and environmental landscape, offering an essential resource for stakeholders, policymakers, and community leaders.

Aims & Objectives

The report and dashboard will shine a light on both the strengths and challenges faced by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough (C&P) region, renowned for its world-class universities, innovation clusters, and rapidly expanding industries. It will delve into critical issues such as connectivity, skills development, and inclusive growth, alongside addressing environmental challenges like climate impacts and biodiversity loss.

Key Actions

The State of the Region will be structured around 140 indicators across eight key themes, providing a holistic view of the region’s current status and future prospects. These themes include Business & Enterprise, Health & Wellbeing, Workforce, Jobs & Skills, Wildlife & Nature, and Net Zero & Climate Resilience. Additionally, cross-cutting themes such as Tackling Inequality, Place, and Connectivity will offer insights into issues that impact multiple aspects of regional development.

Through a rigorous, collaborative process involving stakeholder engagement and technical consultations, City Science will ensure that all data is relevant, accurate, and aligned with the region’s strategic needs. The analysis will also include comparisons with other Combined Authorities, national averages, and international peers, offering a nuanced perspective of the region’s performance.

Benefits of the Report and Dashboard

This report and dashboard will bring significant benefits to the region by:

  1. Empowering Decision-Makers: By providing an evidence-based analysis, the report will equip policymakers with the insights needed to make informed decisions that foster sustainable growth and address regional challenges effectively.
  2. Supporting Strategic Planning: The comprehensive data and thematic analysis will serve as a foundation for long-term planning, helping local authorities, businesses, and community leaders to prioritise investments and initiatives that will drive regional prosperity.
  3. Promoting Inclusive Growth: By highlighting disparities and inequalities across different areas, the report will guide targeted interventions aimed at promoting inclusivity, ensuring that all communities benefit from the region’s growth.
  4. Enhancing Environmental Stewardship: The focus on environmental themes, including Net Zero & Climate Resilience and Wildlife & Nature, will support the region’s efforts to combat climate change and preserve its unique environmental assets.
  5. Benchmarking Performance: The report’s comparisons with national and international peers will provide valuable benchmarks, enabling the region to measure its progress and identify areas where further improvement is needed.

We are excited to contribute to this vital work, which will serve as a cornerstone for planning a sustainable and prosperous future for the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough region. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress on this important project.
