Women in Net Zero Launch Event Wrap Up

The launch event for Women in Net Zero (WiNZ) wasn’t just another networking opportunity, it felt like the beginning of something truly impactful. Hosted by City Science, the event set the tone for a network dedicated to making women feel seen, heard, and empowered as they navigate the path to a net zero future.

Setting the Stage for Change

Attendees from diverse sectors came together, united by a shared goal: to carve out space for women to lead, innovate, and thrive in the net zero sector. Feedback from the event was both moving and motivating, with many describing it as unlike any professional event they had previously attended. Words like refreshing, honest, and welcoming were echoed throughout the room. Several attendees expressed feeling more comfortable speaking up than ever before, a testament to the safe, inclusive environment WiNZ is committed to fostering.

Key Takeaways from the Day

The panel discussion struck a chord with many attendees, underscoring the wealth of opportunities available within the net zero landscape. Hearing from women across various sectors made the vision of a sustainable future feel more tangible and more accessible.

Other standout moments included:

  • Empowerment and Inspiration: Attendees left with a renewed sense of their strengths and potential to make a difference.
  • Hunger for Continued Connection: There was an overwhelming desire for ongoing opportunities to learn, connect, and grow both professionally and personally.

Workshop Insights

The interactive workshops provided invaluable insights into what women in the net zero sector need to succeed. Recurring themes included:

  • Career insights and cross-sector inspiration.
  • Tools to combat imposter syndrome and climate anxiety.
  • Leadership development and confidence-building.
  • Practical job-seeking advice, such as identifying in-demand skills.
  • A desire to maintain open, honest dialogues to foster learning and growth.

What’s Next for WiNZ?

The energy and enthusiasm in the room confirmed what we had hoped: WiNZ is meeting a genuine need in the industry. Here’s what to expect next:

  1. Building a Voluntary Committee: In July, we’ll open applications for committee roles. Whether you’re passionate about events, mentorship, communications, or strategy, there’s a place for you to contribute.
  2. Launching a Mentoring Scheme: Mentorship emerged as a critical need during the event. We’re developing a programme to connect women across sectors for mutual support, advice, and encouragement.
  3. Online Community Event – July 2025: Stay tuned for our upcoming online panel and update in July, where we’ll share more about the committee and mentoring programme.
  4. Next In-Person Event – Mid-September, London: We’re already planning our second in-person event. Expect a new panel, practical workshops, and plenty of time to network and connect.

WiNZ is just getting started, and we’re grateful to everyone who attended the launch and shared their voices. Together, we’re building a more inclusive, sustainable future and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
